SHEFFIELD'S Owlerton Stadium is set to host big-time racing again next season with the return of the Premier League Riders' Championship.
The prestigious event, which features the top 16 riders from the league, has alwasy been a success both on and off the track whenever it has been staged at the city venue.
But last season, in their wisdom, the sport's bosses took the event to Swindon - and it proved to be a commercial flop.
Now Tigers chiefs Neil Machin and David Hoggart have been asked to take the event back - and talks have already taken place about a September date.
Said Hoggart: "The PLRC at Sheffield is one event which always makes a good profit to be shared around the sport, which is what it's all about.
"I found it crazy that a stadium with the facilities of Owlerton didn't stage a major BSPA event last season and thankfully we will be given the opportunity to have the PLRC back in 2008, it seems.
"We're looking at a date of Sunday, September 21, with a 3.30 start but all this is subject to confirmation from the big events series director, Jonathan Chapman."
