CAPTAIN COMPTON IN NEW DEAL BOOST

Thursday December 06, 2007
ANDRE Compton will captain Sheffield for a third successive season after agreeing a new two-year deal with the Owlerton club.

Tigers, runners-up in the Premier League title race, are determined to go one step further and lift the title in 208 with Compton, one of the best riders in the league, at the helm.

And the man himself is relieved to be back at Owlerton after fears for his future at the club.

"It's great news and I never wanted to be going anywhere else," said Compton. "I admit I was concerned about the speculation over the points limit because i might have been forced to leave, but I know what's happening now and I'm delighted to be staying at Sheffield."

Compton joins Ricky Ashworth as a certain starter in the seven-man team for the 2008 season with talks at an advanced stage with several other riders.
More announcements are due over the next few days.
