TIGERS STEP UP NEW FAN BID

Wednesday March 13, 2019
TIGERS have launched another new drive to attract a new generation of supporters for their Sunday afternoon racing - and they've already had a great response.

Following the link-up with Sheffield Steelers, the go-ahead Owlerton club have now launched a campaign with both the National Health Service union Unison and South Yorkshire Police Sports and Social Club.

It means that members of the city's Unison branch and also the SYPSSC members will be offered discounted packages for group bookings through profile-raising advertisements on their respective websites.

Said Tigers co-boss Damien Bates: "We launched the promotion this week and we've already had a very good take-up.

"It's about us putting something back into two very worthy organisations and also trying to attract more supporters.

"We're also looking at other avenues which will hopefully prove fruitful."

Tigers will forge their links with the Steelers this coming weekend when the team will be special guests at Sheffield's FlyDSA Arena for the ice hockey match against Cardiff Devils.

Added Damien: "The riders will be presented with their 2019 race-jackets on the ice before the game by the Steelers' management and we'll also have an exhibition on the Arena concourse.

"It's all part of a major programme to raise awareness of speedway, which has included magazine and newspaper advertising and we're also on the high profile big screen at the end of Sheffield Parkway, which will be seen by thousands of people every day.

"It's an exciting time. A lot of hard work has gone into the promotional work and we hope it will pay off."

Sheffield’s opening meeting of the season is on Sunday week, March 24, when they host their 90th anniversary meeting with a glittering line-up.

Gates open at 2pm with racing underway at 4pm and fans can enjoy Sunday lunch in the Panorama Room restaurant or a snack in the refreshment area on the lower level.
