KING TAKES SILVER

Sunday September 01, 2019
SHEFFIELD’s Danny King finished runner-up at the Championship Riders’ Individual in front of his home fans on Sunday.

The Tigers number one improved as the event went on and was made to settle for second place behind Redcar’s Erik Riss.

King won two of his five qualifying rides to book his place in the semi-final.

There he got the better of Jake Allen and Adam Ellis to join Riss in the grand final alongside Ryan Douglas and Sam Masters.

After a fairly slow start, King gained ground on Riss but couldn’t find a way past the German.

King said: “I got off to a fairly slow start but got dialled in and managed to pull it back a little.

“For some reason I’m just not making starts at the moment and that’s probably what cost me.

“It would’ve been nice to win it in front of the Sheffield fans but I guess second place isn’t too bad.”

King’s Sheffield teammates Todd Kurtz and Zaine Kennedy were both late call-ups to the event and were among the points in a powerful field.

Despite two provisional dates being announced, Tigers remain in discussions with Newcastle regarding a new date for the outstanding Championship fixture at Owlerton.
