NICKI PREPARING FOR TITLE BID

Tuesday June 30, 2020
SHEFFIELD racer Nicki Pedersen is preparing for a bid to claim his second European title – this time with the prize of a Grand Prix spot as an added incentive.

Pedersen, a three-time world champion, won the Euro series in 2016 and was a strong challenger last year until injury struck.

Now the series will take place over five rounds, all in Poland, throughout July starting this Saturday.

Pedersen has been unable to make his Sheffield debut so far this year but met fans at the stadium in January and attended press and practice in March.

Club bosses are still hoping to get some sort of competitive racing before the end of October with Pedersen part of their plans.

He said: "I got injured last year and I was aiming to win it last year.

"I was only one point behind the leader for the last round - but unfortunately I got injured which happens sometimes, it was bad timing I suppose you could say!

"But it’s good to be back in 2020 in the European Championships and whoever wins he is straight in the Grand Prix for 2021 so let's see what happens."

Tigers fans can watch the action on Eurosport with Dave Rowe and ex-Sheffield favourite Sam Ermolenko on commentary duty – and a UK programme has been produced including racecards for all five rounds.

The 2020 European Championship guide is a 52 page production featuring interviews with British star Robert Lambert, Pedersen and Michelsen along with rider profiles including the thoughts of Kelvin Tatum and a look back at last year’s series.

It’s available to order now from curtis-sport.com for £5 and will be posted out on the day of the order.
