TIGERS READY TO TALK 2021

Tuesday July 21, 2020
SHEFFIELD Tigers are ready to start immediate talks with their 2020 team to establish whether the same septet can come back together for next year.

The news comes following the announcement that the current Premiership campaign has been cancelled without a wheel being turned.

The fact that Boris Johnson announced on Friday that crowds would only be allowed back into stadia in October ruled out any prospect of league racing this year.

Some clubs who own their own venue will be looking to stage events, but it seems unlikely the bikes will roar around Owlerton now until next March.

Club co-owner Damien Bates said: “Every effort has been made to be ready for an August start but the decision was taken out of our hands on Friday.

“There hadn’t been a build up like this at Sheffield for a new season for well over 20 years after we went the extra mile to sign triple world champion Nicki Pedersen and Australian sensation Jack Holder.

“All this in addition to our promotion to the Premiership and it’s a shattering blow to us all not to be able to see that happen this year.

“However, we have to look ahead to next year and along with our team manager Simon Stead we will be talking to our riders to establish whether we can bring them all back together next year.

“We wish all our supporters well and continue to hope everyone stays fit and healthy in this difficult time for us all.

“We will all be itching to get back to Owlerton for speedway next year that’s for sure. Here at Sheffield we’ll continue to push the sport through our social media channels with interactive content and regular news updates, but for now we can just sit back and wonder what might have been.

“I’d like to thank all our riders for being so patient during a time when we couldn’t really give them any concrete news.

“We will also look to update our season ticket holders on the process going forward but naturally we will offer the opportunity to roll the ticket over into 2021.”
