SHEFFIELD bosses have underlined their commitment to the 2021 season after seeing Swindon withdraw from the Premiership on Monday.

The Robins have stated the redevelopment of the Abbey Stadium is set to take place this summer and the club aren’t keen to stage meetings on what would be a building site.

They have also said they are nervous about ongoing restrictions which could relate to sport – but Tigers are ready to go as soon as the green light is given.

“We are sad to see Swindon miss out this year and we wish them well for the building work of the new stadium, we hope all goes to plan for them,” said Tigers co-owner Peter Mole.

“There are now some top quality riders without a team place in the Premiership - and that’s a big shame, let’s hope the likes of Jason Doyle, Troy Batchelor and Adam Ellis get fixed up.

“We at Sheffield just have to get on with it though; we remain very positive and optimistic about what this year could hold in store. We have team plans in place and other options along the way, let’s see what happens after the AGM on Thursday.

“We remain more than fully committed to the season ahead, we have contingency plans on all levels in place and we will be ready to go whenever it is deemed safe to do so.”

Sheffield will inevitably miss the chance to see triple World Champion Nicki Pedersen in action as his Polish contract restricts the amount of leagues he is able to race in.

It was an ambitious move to bring him back to the UK and made the rest of British Speedway sit up and take notice of the club.

But Tigers bosses are equally ambitious to get the most powerful team possible put together for the reduced six-team league in what is certain to be a shortened season.

The club are hoping, with play-offs and a possible cup competition and individual meeting, to host 14-15 meetings from May onwards.
