BATCH BEGINS SEASON PREP

SHEFFIELD signing Troy Batchelor has revealed how he is already in training ahead of the new season and has thanked fans for the welcome.

Former Grand Prix racer Batchelor was unveiled as a new face in the Tigers side last week in a move which went down well with loyal supporters.

He admits he was saddened by news of Swindon sitting out 2021 but his switch to Owlerton has given him a big boost.

“It’s great for me, I’ve been stoked by the reaction from the fans up there,” said the Aussie ace. “I can’t wait to get there and get some laps in.

“I’m sat here at home knowing that I have a team place sorted and I’m already working on things like my fitness.

“I want to be in the best shape possible when we get the green light to start the season and I’m already working on that. I had a tough time last year and feel like I’ve got some catching up to do.”

The one downside for Batchelor is the reduced fixture schedule. As things stand Sheffield will race 10 home meetings and 10 away, plus play-offs if they qualify.

“I would like more meetings so perhaps I can pick some guest bookings up, I’m open to anything,” he said.

“I would also be willing to discuss doubling-up in the Championship if that can work. I’m going to be based in the UK all year so I’m here ready and willing to do more meetings.

“But I’m delighted to be at Sheffield and it’s great to be hooking up with Steady (Simon Stead). He was a cool rider and I’m pleased to be working with him.”

Meanwhile Richard Lawson, who is a casualty of the team reshaping for 2021, has already held talks with another Premiership club and should be accommodated.
