STEAD’S RELIEF AT ELLIS DEAL

Thursday March 25, 2021
TIGERS boss Simon Stead has revealed his relief at getting the Adam Ellis deal over the line.

Great Britain international Ellis was available following Swindon’s decision to sit out 2021 due to stadium redevelopment.

He’s highly rated by Swindon boss Alun Rossiter, a good friend of Stead from when the Tigers chief raced under him for the Robins in their 2012 title winning campaign.

“I rate Adam very highly,” said Stead. “He’s got a nice style and he suits the Sheffield track superbly. Our social media team posted a race clip of him riding here and watching him you could see how comfortable he looked on our track.

“It took a while to get the deal over the line, not because of money I hasten to add. Adam is a good lad who is based in France and it was more the logical side of things which needed to be sorted out.

“Rosco (Rossiter) speaks very highly of him too and I’m looking forward to working closely with him at Sheffield and I’m sure Olly Allen and myself will be keeping a close watch on his form with our Great Britain hats on.

“He’s a very professional rider who has matured greatly and has a great determination to go as far as he can in the sport.”

Sheffield are continuing their build-up to the new season, which is due to start in May, by putting plans in place behind the scenes.

A new-look raceday programme will be produced by the club in partnership with Curtis Sport Ltd, who also provide programmes to Newcastle United, West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City.

Listening to feedback from supporters, it will include a four-page bond racecard to make it easier for supporters to complete.

Co-promoter Peter Mole is also hoping to see the relaunch of supporters meetings at the New Barrack Tavern close to the stadium as soon as restrictions are lifted.

“They are great functions and a really enjoyable way for some supporters to come together,” he said. “The STAARS (Sheffield Tigers Aid and Rider Support) group do so much fine work, we are looking forward to seeing them again very soon.”
