EMOTIONAL NIGHT AHEAD

Thursday June 03, 2021
SHEFFIELD co-promoter Peter Mole says tonight’s home meeting with Wolverhampton will be an emotional occasion for supporters.

Speedway returns for the first time since September 2019 with the first top flight home meeting for the club since 1988.

It’s been confirmed Tigers are at full strength which means Australian sensation Jack Holder – who has been piling up the points in Poland – makes his home debut alongside Adam Ellis, Troy Batchelor and James Wright.

Mole said: “Speedway is a sport which brings people together. There will be friends coming together who haven’t seen each other since we left Owlerton in 2019.

“There will also be absent friends, of course. We must offer our sincere condolences to anyone who has lost a friend or a loved one during the pandemic.

“Personally I can’t wait to get back racing at Owlerton, I believe we have one of the best venues in British Speedway and I can’t tell you how much I’ve missed it.”

Mole, based in the West Midlands near Stourbridge, admits it will be a special occasion on a personal level.

“Wolves are my local club and I am always afforded a great welcome from Chris Van Straaten and Pete Adams when I go along to watch,” he said.

“But I want to beat them. We want our first win of the season but they’ve started the season brilliantly and they’ll arrive here full of confidence.

“We know it will be a really tough meeting, but we all need to savour the occasion and enjoy it.”

Tickets for the third and fourth bend terracing have sold out but there will be cash admission available on the night for the home straight. Fans are urged to allow a little extra time than normal for entering the stadium.
