CAPTAIN KYLE - RIGHT ATTITUDE THE KEY

Friday September 24, 2021
SHEFFIELD captain Kyle Howarth says his side have shown the right character this week as they head towards the Premiership play-offs.

They will warm up for their semi-final with Belle Vuye next Thursday with one final league outing at Owlerton on Sunday against King's Lynn (5pm).

The club are hoping to see plenty of support for a rare weekend meeting with an opportunity for children to attend with the early start.

Monday’s win at Peterborough has breathed new life into the Tru Plant Tigers’ season, and offered genuine hope that they can still mount a serious title challenge after an inconsistent summer.

A terrific semi-final clash with Belle Vue gets underway at Owlerton next Thursday, with Tigers having beaten the Aces at home on both of their visits this season.

And momentum could just be with Sheffield, who ended a three-match winless win with the brilliant 51-39 victory at the East of England Arena, in the process cancelling out the Panthers’ own away win four nights earlier.

Howarth admits the nature of that home defeat had come as a major shock to the system – but the response of the team was top-drawer.

He said: “You don’t like to lose at home, definitely at this time of the season going into the play-offs, because then you look weak.

“So that as really frustrating, but when we went to Peterborough there was a great attitude in the pits.

“Everyone came fighting, everyone came to win, and we did that, and some people really regained confidence from that result.

“It was good to see Batch (Troy Batchelor) scoring points, and it was also a great performance from Danyon Hume at reserve – he really put a fighting shift in, and that’s what we’re all about.

“It was a great performance, much-needed after the home loss, and we’re ready to take anyone on in the play-offs. We’ll come out fighting.”
