TIGERS CRASH AS DIAMONDS SPARKLE

SHEFFIELD'S Speedway riders lost their unbeaten Premier Trophy record with a poor 63-27 defeat at Newcastle on Sunday night.

Eric Boocock's men were outclassed in every department on a tricky track - but it was the same for both sides.

Tigers skipper Andre Compton, a former Newcastle rider, was the top Sheffield rider with eight-points - but he could have scored more as he failed to beat a home rider when nominated for double-points as a tactical ride in Heat 10.

Manager Eric Boocock said: “We were awful, it’s as simple as that. The track was tricky but I cannot accept that from our lads because Newcastle loved it!

“I hope it turns out to be one of those nights, it’s early days and we must simply move on.
“Only time will tell if that’s how it is, but we have to step it up and ensure we don’t let our travelling fans down like this again."

NEWCASTLE: Josef Franc 14+1, Christian Henry 10+1, Ben Powell 10+2, George Stancl 10+1, Jason King 8+2, Shaun Stoddart 6, Jamie Roberston 5+1.
SHEFFIELD: Andre Compton 8, Simon Lambert 6+2, Joel Parsons 6, Ricky Ashworth 2, Sam Martin 2, Paul Cooper 2, Ben Wilson 1.
