CAPTAIN COMPTON LEADS LADS TO VICTORY

Thursday April 03, 2008
SHEFFIELD’S Speedway stars got their Premier Trophy campaign back on track with an impressive 53-39 win over Redcar at Owlerton.

Skipper Andre Compton was in stunning form to remain unbeaten by an opposing rider throughout the night, although Josh Auty challenged hard in the line in his first outing.

Gary Havelock, World Champion 16-years ago, was superb for the Teesside club with a string of impressive rides to underline the fact that he is still one of the top riders in the Premier League.

He was nominated for double points in Heat 11 but was beaten by Sheffield youngster Ben Wlson who did enough to restrict the impact.

Compton had the last word in Heat 15 when he got the better of Havelock, but the Redcar star never gave up as he kept the pressure on throughout the race. Wilson pulled out early on with bike problems for Sheffield to restrict their winning margin.

Simon Lambert was impressive at reserve for the Owlerton side and he stays in the side for the return fixture at the South Tees Motorsport Park as a replacement for the injured Lee Smethills on Friday.

SHEFFIELD: Andre Compton 14+1, Joel Parsons 8+2, Ben Wilson 8+2, Simon Lambert 8+1, Ricky Ashworth 7, Paul Cooper 5+1, Sam Martin 3.
REDCAR: Gary Havelock 17, Josh Auty 10+2, Arlo Bugeja 5, Tomas Suchanek 3+2, Ty Proctor 3, Daniel Giffard 1, James Grieves R/R.
