PREMIERSHIP PAIRS PREVIEW

Sunday May 22, 2022
SHEFFIELD will compete in the Premiership Pairs for the very first time at Peterborough on Monday (May 23, 7.30).

It sees the return of the Major Event calendar and the first involvement for the Tru Plant Tigers since joining the top-flight of British Speedway.

But in a change to the traditional one-off format, each of the six top-flight clubs will stage a round between now and September.

Points will be awarded 4-3-2-0 throughout the qualifying heats with points then assigned 12-8-6-4-2-0 depending on the final rankings at the end of each night with the Champions the team with the most points at the end of Round Six.

Team managers are able to select two of their top four averaged riders, plus the club’s Rising Star or No.8 who must have at least one outing.

Grand Prix race Jack Holder and British Champion Adam Ellis will line-up for the Tru Plant Tigers alongside Rising Star Connor Mountain.

Co-promoter Damien Bates said: “Regardless of what competition it is, if you’re involved then everybody wants to win the trophy.

“I think it’s great to see the Pairs back this year and it’s even better to have it with this new format.

“All the line-ups look really strong and it’s hard to predict a winner, but with Jack, Adam and Connor as the Rising Star, I’d like to think Sheffield can go close in Round One.”

Supporters who can’t get to the meeting can stream online via British Speedway Network+.

It costs £12.99 per round or a Premiership Pairs six-round subscription can be purchased for £49.
