SHEFFIELD SWOOP FOR ALLEN

Friday June 10, 2022
SHEFFIELD have completed the signing of Jake Allen.

The Australian replaces reserve Stefan Nielsen who had won just one of his 18 Premiership races and scored 13 points in five league meetings for the Tru Plant Tigers.

Club co-promoter Damien Bates said: "Don't get me wrong, overall it's been a decent start to the season for Sheffield.

"But we've had quite a few close run meetings now and I do feel as though our form has dropped off a little bit in terms of performance.

"We took a look at things and we felt there was an opportunity for us to strengthen down at reserve by bringing Jake in for Stefan.

"Stefan has certainly been putting the effort in but we thought he'd have scored a few more points by now to be honest.

"Jake offers you something different and we think he can bring a lot to this current team as well.

"He showed glimpses of what he can do in the Premiership with Ipswich last year, including when he scored ten points the first time they came to Owlerton, and we've seen him have some really good meetings at Sheffield when we were in the Championship as well.

"We wish Stefan all the best for the rest of the season with Birmingham in the Championship and we welcome Jake who we hope can make an impact down at reserve."
Allen, who also rides for Scunthorpe in the second tier, will make his debut in Monday's trip to Peterborough.
