SHEFFIELD SWOOP FOR SEDGMEN

Wednesday June 29, 2022
SHEFFIELD have drafted in Justin Sedgmen after reserve Jake Allen suffered a broken scaphoid.

Recent recruit Allen sustained the injury during last Thursday's win at King's Lynn and is now facing a spell on the sidelines.

Sedgmen, who first joined the Owlerton outfit in the second half of the 2019 season, guested in Monday's home victory over Ipswich and proved to be the star of the show, scoring 10+3.

And Tru Plant Tigers bosses have moved quickly to get him back into their side after racing for the club on eight occasions last season.

Co-promoter Damien Bates said: "It's one of those for Jake where nobody can put a time on how long he'll be out for.

"We have to think of the team first and foremost and while we wish Jake a speedy recovery, we can't afford to take any gambles as we approach the half-way point of our season.

"So we've drafted Sedgy in and as he proved on Monday, he's a big fan of the track at Sheffield.

"He's been going good for Birmingham in the Championship, that's led to a lot of guest bookings in both of the top two leagues and he's been on the bike a lot lately.

"We know he can come in and do a solid job for us for the foreseeable future and it's the chance he's been waiting a while for."
Sedgmen will make his latest Sheffield debut when they head to Belle Vue on Monday (July 4, 7.30).
