PREVIEW: CUP FINAL TIME AT SHEFFIELD!

Wednesday September 28, 2022
SHEFFIELD host the first leg of the 2022 Premiership League Cup Final as they take on King’s Lynn at Owlerton on Thursday (September 29, 7.30).

The qualifying group stages took place at the front end of the season with Sheffield squeezing out of the Northern section by the narrowest of margins.

King’s Lynn on the other hand dominated the Southern Group, winning all four of their meetings.

Since then, the two clubs have experienced differing fortunes in the league itself.

Sheffield topped the Premiership standings ahead of the cut-off for play-off qualification whilst the Stars missed out on a place in the top four.

Nevertheless, the League Cup Final promises to throw up some exciting entertainment.

Sheffield may have won all four meetings between the two sides this year but King’s Lynn have certainly tested the Tru Plant Tigers on both of their visits to South Yorkshire so far.

On those occasions, just two points have separated the teams at the mid-way point of the fixture, with the visitors still in with a shout of a consolation league point heading into Heat 15.

And with King’s Lynn including star reserve Frederik Jakobsen, who has racked up 49 points from his last four meetings, Sheffield heat-leader Adam Ellis is anticipating a stern challenge from the Norfolk outfit.

“It feels like a long time ago now that we were doing the League Cup so it’s nice to finally get around to the Final,” he said.

“King’s Lynn are a stronger team now than they were back when those group meetings happened and they’ve ran us pretty close at Sheffield already.

“They were missing Jakobsen last time they came so we know it’s going to be hard, especially because that’s all they’ve got left to fight for now this year.

“So it’s going to be a tough one but we’re fired up for it.

“We want to try and do the double.

“That would be really nice but we know we’ve got a few battles on our hands to do that.”

Supporters are reminded that season tickets ARE valid for the League Cup Final and all Children under the age of 16 will be admitted for just £1.

In addition, the first 100 junior supporters who arrive at the stadium on Thursday will receive an exclusive Sheffield Speedway wristband.

Sheffield Speedway would also like to stress that this meeting is NOT being broadcast on TV or online and the only way to see the action is in person trackside.

A new date is still being discussed for the second leg at King’s Lynn’s Adrian Flux Arena due to Sheffield’s play-off commitments against Wolverhampton taking priority this Monday (October 3) following a rain-off in the West Midlands earlier this week.
