SIMON SAYS - REACTION - TIGERS 54 WOLVERHAMPTON 36

Friday June 09, 2023
SHEFFIELD boss Simon Stead says he was particularly pleased with how his side ‘turned the screw’ in their Sports Insure Premiership Knockout Cup Semi-Final win over Wolverhampton.

The Tru Plant Tigers eventually built up an 18-point advantage as they came out on top 54-36 - but it was a fine late effort that helped them gain so much control in the tie.

Just six points separated the two teams at the interval with the visitors growing in confidence after reeling off four straight race wins.

But Sheffield came back out in stunning form as they weighed in with three 5-1s in the final four heats to put themselves in the driving seat ahead of the decider at Monmore Green on Monday, June 19.

Said Stead: “They were keeping us honest a lot of the way through the meeting.

“So we had to regroup a little bit and we finished really strong, we turned the screw a little bit and that was good.

“Wolverhampton is a really tough place to go though, they’ve got some great riders who ride their place very, very well.

“So while 18 points is something I’m happy with, it’s still only half the job done and we still know we need to finish it off at Wolves.”

In the meantime, the Tru Plant Tigers now turn their attentions back to the league.

They head to Ipswich on Monday (June 12, 7.30) before hosting the Witches, who are spearheaded by world stars Jason Doyle and Emil Sayfutdinov, on Thursday, June 15 (7.30).
