TIGERS 54 WOLVERHAMPTON 36

Thursday September 07, 2023
SHEFFIELD rounded off their regular league campaign with a solid 54-36 win over Wolverhampton - the team they will now face in the play-off semi-finals.

There were four shared races in the opening five heats with only a 5-1 from Chris Holder and Josh Pickering in the third separating the sides early doors.

But the Tru Plant Tigers then found five heat advantages in the next six races to seize control.

Victory was confirmed by Heat 12 before two further advantages but then ahead on aggregate by two with one race remaining.

There was drama when Tobiasz Musielak came down on bends one and two - and then controversy when Wolves’ Ryan Douglas was allowed back in the re-run despite not appearing to be under power at the time of the stoppage.

Wolves got the 5-1 they needed in the second attempt to snatch the aggregate point.

Tru Plant Tigers team boss Simon Stead said: “That was a good display from the lads and we were well worth that margin of victory.

“It was the sort of performance we were looking for and it keeps our good run going here at home ahead of the business part of the year.”

It’s now confirmed that for the second season running Sheffield and Wolves will meet in the Sports Insure Premiership Play-Off Semi-Finals.

The first leg will take place at Monmore Green on Monday, September 25 (7.30) with the decider at Owlerton on Thursday, September 28 (7.30).

Before that though, the Tigers’ attentions turn to the 2023 Premiership Knockout Cup Final - with the first leg at Owlerton on Monday (September 11, 7.30).
