TIGERS CONFIRM BRUMMIES DATES

Wednesday January 03, 2007
SHEFFIELD TIGERS have finalised their Premier Trophy dates with speedway's newest club, reports www.sheffieldtoday.net

Birmingham Brummies will be making an emotional return to the sport at the city's Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium when they throw open the doors for the Alan Hunt Memorial Trophy in March.

And Sheffield owner Neil Machin has confirmed they will face the Brummies at Owlerton on Thursday, April 5 - with the return in the second city the following night, which is Good Friday.

Birmingham include former Tigers favourite Emiliano Sanchez and the trip to the Midlands will also bring back memories for Tigers team manager Reg Wilson who had a spell at their former Bordersley Green home, close to Birmingham City FC, towards the end of his career in the mid 80s.

Sheffield promoter Neil Machin said: "It's a great way for us to race over Easter because there is such a massive amount of interest in Birmingham's return.

"For this sport to have a club in a major city like that again is tremendous.

"I know they're expecting thousands of fans to attend their re-opening on March 21.

"I feel sure Birmingham will bring several coachloads to our place on April 5 and we will no doubt take a lot of support there on Good Friday."

The draft fixture list is currently under compilation and is set to be revealed in the next month.
