HOLDER THIRD IN AUSSIE CHAMPS

Monday January 15, 2024
SHEFFIELD No.1 Jack Holder was unable to retain his Australian Championship crown at the weekend - but still secured third place overall.

The five round series saw Oxford’s Rohan Tungate pip Leicester’s Max Fricke to the title in the final event while Holder came out on top in a tense battle for bronze.

He beat Belle Vue’s Jaimon Lidsey in a run-off for third to guarantee himself a place in the Grand Prix qualifying rounds for 2025.

Elsewhere, brother Chris Holder finished seventh overall on 42 points - one place and one point ahead of Tigers team-mate Josh Pickering.

A reminder that the first action of the season will take place at Owlerton on Thursday, March 14 (7.30) as club captain Kyle Howarth stages his Testimonial.

The event will see the 2024 Tigers take on a World Select side.

Sheffield then begin their defence of their Sports Insure Premiership crown on Thursday, March 21 (7.30) when top-flight newcomers Oxford are the visitors to the Steel City.
