THURSDAY PREVIEW: LEICESTER v TIGERS

Wednesday April 10, 2024
SHEFFIELD hit the road once again on Thursday (April 11, 7.30pm) as they take on Leicester in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership.

It will be a fourth straight away fixture for the Tru7 Group Tigers who have seen all of their scheduled home fixtures washed out to date.

They lost 49-41 at Belle Vue in the Knockout Cup last time out, but their previous Premiership fixture saw the South Yorkshire side fight from ten points down to grab a draw at Birmingham before snatching the extra league point from a Super Heat.

They face a Leicester team who beat King’s Lynn at home narrowly on opening night before losing their home cup tie against Ipswich. The Lions were then beaten by 18 points at Belle Vue on Monday night.

Both Leicester and Sheffield were included in many people’s pre-season play-off picks and Tigers team boss Simon Stead is expecting a tasty clash.

“We’re going to see a very a competitive speedway meeting you would imagine,” he said.

“We all know my thoughts on the Sheffield team by now but Leicester have got a good solid look about them and it will be a tough one.

“I’m a little bit surprised with how both of our seasons have got started if I’m being honest but I know Stewart Dickson (Leicester team manager) will have his riders fired up for Thursday and I know he’ll be after a response.

“For us it will be good to get back together as a team because it’s been such a stop-start beginning to the season and the fact we haven’t been able to get a home meeting on yet is disappointing.

“But there are league points on the line at Leicester on Thursday and hopefully we can go there, dig deep and try and come away with a result that goes in our favour.”

Any supporters who are unable to travel to the Pidcock Motorcycles Arena on Thursday can stream the fixture online for £12.99 via leicesterlionstv.com.
