TIGERS 50 LEICESTER 40

Thursday May 23, 2024
SHEFFIELD produced a remarkable performance to beat Leicester 50-40 - despite being without three of their regular riders.

Already missing Josh Pickering (shoulder injury) and Dan Gilkes (concussion), the Tru7 Group Tigers also lost No.1 Jack Holder in the build-up to the fixture following the birth of his first child.

But that didn’t thwart the Tigers who delivered a solid six-man display to add three league points to their ROWE Motor Oil Premiership Tally.

After a shared opener, returning reserve Jason Edwards and guest Rising Star Jake Mulford combined for a key early 5-1.

The visitors hit back with a 4-2 in the next before Tai Woffinden eased to victory in Heat Four.

Chris Holder then led a 4-2 in the fifth before back-to-back shared races followed.

Mulford and fellow guest Rory Schlein landed a 4-2 in Heat Eight, prompting Leicester team boss Stewart Dickson to utilise his tactical substitute instantly in the ninth.

But Holder and Kyle Howarth rode superbly to deny the visitors as the Tigers opened up a ten point lead.

Schlein and Woffinden then recorded a 4-2 to extend their lead to 12 - but the visitors took full advantage of a punctured front tyre and a consequential 15 metre handicap for Woffinden with their first 5-1 of the night.

Holder made it a hat-trick of wins in Heat 12 before Woffinden and Schlein sealed the deal with two races to spare.

The visitors got a consolation maximum of their own in Heat 14 before Holder reeled off a fourth straight win in Heat 15 with Howarth coming out on top for third place following a great ding ding battle with Richard Lawson.

The result shot the Tru7 Group Tigers up to third in the league standings who travel to Belle Vue on Monday (May 27, 12 noon).
