TIGERS 54 KING'S LYNN 36

Thursday June 27, 2024
SHEFFIELD are through to their third successive cup final after an eight point aggregate victory over King’s Lynn.

For the third Owlerton outing on the spin, the Tru7 Group Tigers won 54-36 to overturn a ten point deficit and seal a 94-86 triumph over the Stars.

It was the perfect start for the hosts as Jack Holder and Kyle Howarth opened with a 5-1 - a combination that would prove pivotal throughout the night.

Jason Edwards scored his only points of the night when he took the chequered flag in Heat Two before Chris Holder led a 4-2 in Heat Three.

The visitors landed their first advantage with a 4-2 of their own in the fourth with impressive Rising Star Anders Rowe getting the better of Tai Woffinden before an all-action Heat Five.

Chris Holder again made light work of things to record successive victories but the drama, unsurprisingly, featured Josh Pickering at the back. Despite losing his steel shoe on the start line, the Aussie still delivered a fully committed ride and rounded Stars guest No.1 Richard Lawson on the line.

Jack Holder and Howarth then linked up for their second maximum of the night to draw the scores level on aggregate in Heat Six.

A hat-trick of 3-3s followed before Sheffield’s opening pairing, again, came up with another big ride.

Jack Holder made a brilliant start from gate three before Howarth came out of a tight squeeze with both Stars’ riders down the back straight to move the Tigers ahead on aggregate with their third 5-1 of the contest.

Woffinden and Chris Holder added further races wins before Woffinden and Jack Holder put Sheffield on the verge of qualification with a maximum in Heat 13.

Their place in the final was mathematically booked when Pickering and Dan Gilkes took the minor places in Heat 14 before Chris Holder bagged his fourth win of the night in Heat 15.

Sheffield will take on Ipswich in a repeat of last year’s Knockout Cup Final - the two legs are pencilled in for the first week in September.

In the meantime, Sheffield have two away trips in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership next week - they head to Oxford on Monday (July 1, 7.30pm) before facing Leicester in the East Midlands next Thursday (July 4, 7.30pm).
