TIGERS HEAD NORTH

Friday May 30, 2008
SHEFFIELD head north to Workington on Saturday evening looking to bounce back from last week’s home defeat against the Comets (7pm).

The Cumbrian side have been in a rich vein of form in recent weeks, which has included ending the Tigers two-year unbeaten home record when recording a 50-40 victory at Owlerton last Thursday.

The Premier League match against Workington is the first of a busy couple of days for Eric Boocock’s team, as on Sunday they head up to Scotland to take on the Glasgow Tigers at Ashfield (4pm).

Sheffield will be at full-strength for both fixtures, but their opponents will be giving debuts to their recent new signings. Finnish star Tomi Reima makes his first appearance in Workington colours on Saturday night and Dane Anders Andersen will do likewise for Glasgow on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers will, however, make one positional change for Sunday’s fixture at Ashfield. The issuing of the June greensheet averages sees Lee Smethills drop down to the reserve berth and Paul Cooper moves into the main body of the team.

Workingon's Carl Stonehewer will make a late decision on his fitness having suffered bad bruising in a crash against Stoke last weekend.

Team boss Boocock is looking for a good response from his team in both meetings. He said: "Workington caught us cold at our place, but now we have a chance to make up for it and the riders are well aware of that.

"We need to win to get our season back on track at Workington - and then go to Glasgow on Sunday and do the same there. The objective has to be a couple of key wins."
