SHEFFIELD Tigers skipper Andre Compton has signed a new deal to race in Sweden - to keep himself out of the comfort zone, reports www.sheffieldtoday.net
Compton has agreed to race 18 meetings for top flight club Eskilstuna where he will be up against the world's best riders, including World champion Jason Crump.
It is a move which may have Tigers management and fans alike anxiously awaiting his safe return for Sheffield meetings.
Last season he seriously damaged his shoulder in a crash in a Swedish League meeting and, in an ideal world, the club would prefer him not to race elsewhere.
But Compton said: "I love it. Sometimes in the Premier League in England you can slip into the comfort zone. I feel like I can beat anybody around Owlerton.
"So to be up against the best riders in the world in the Swedish League is good for me. I've beaten some top riders over there and I don't want to be in the comfort zone for the rest of my career.
"When I tried the British Elite League a few years ago I wasn't really ready and there was a lack of meetings with Peterborough. Now I'm busier than ever with speedway and I love it."
Compton has confirmed he is set to arrange a series of team meetings for Sheffield in the build-up to the new season to enhance team spirit.
