REDCAR RUIN TIGERS HOPES

Tuesday July 15, 2008
TIGERS fell short in their bid for more away success with a 54-39 defeat at Redcar.

The Sheffield Window Centre-backed side started the meeting in style with a new track record at the Teesside track from Ricky Ashworth – but their hopes of success slipped away throughout the meeting.

At 23-12 down skipper Andre Compton pulled off an impressive tactical ride to get the better of Ty Proctor and with Joel Parsons third Sheffield were briefly back at 25-20 thanks to the 7-2 race advantage.

The Bears opened up a 36-27 lead going into the break after Heat 10 - and this proved too much for Sheffield having already used the tactical option for double points.

Ben Wilson was introduced as a tactical substitute for the injured Lee Smethills in Heat 11 from a 15-metre handicap.

But Ashworth was excluded for causing Dan Giffard to crash and he was taken to hospital with a shoulder injury which caused a long delay.

Redcar continued to dominate in the latter stages and Tigers knew it wasn’t to be their night.

REDCAR: Gary Havelock 12+1, Arlo Bugeja 9+2, Ty Proctor 9+1, Josh Auty 8+1, James Grieves 8, Chris Kerr 7+1, Dan Giffard 1.
