HOGGY IN MANAGEMENT TALKS

Sunday January 28, 2007
TIGERS centregreen presenter David Hoggart has been invited to join the club's management team.

Club owner Neil Machin is looking to appoint a co-promoter to share his workload after taking overall control of the club from outgoing co-owner Malcolm Wright.

Hoggart, a former second-half rider at Hackney in the 70s, is the man Machin wants after developing a good relationship with the West Yorkshire-based man in recent seasons.

"I can confirm Neil and I have had several discussions on this subject," said Hoggart. "It's something which very much interests me.

"I've developed a great feeling for Sheffield because of the many friends I have met there, and I count Neil as one of them.

"I have great respect for Neil because of what he's achieved at the club down the years and if I can be of any assistance in taking it forward on a professional basis then I would welcome the opportunity.

"However, until I have been interviewed by the British Speedway Management Committee there is nothing more I can say at this stage."

Hoggart will meet the sport's top brass at their Rugby Headquarters on Tuesday, February 13, when his position will be discussed.

One of the issues under the microscope will no doubt be his involvement at other tracks - he had already struck a deal to present meetings at newcomers Birmingham.

"I will cross that particular bridge if and when we get there," said Hoggart. "At the moment there is nothing more to add."
