SHEFFIELD Tigers have allowed former skipper Andre Compton to join Workington on loan for the 2009 season.

The Sheffield Window Centre-backed side ruled him out of their own team plans when he announced his retirement last season.

But he’s had a change of heart and will now ride for the Comets as a replacement for the badly injured Adam Roynon.

Said Compton: "I'm excited about joining as club the size of Workington although naturally the move has been made under very sad circumstances with the injury to Adam.

"I would like to thank the Sheffield management for their understanding and co-operation in helping make the move possible.”

Compton will be in action back at Owlerton for this Sunday’s opening meeting of the season, the Ozchem Classic, when he rides for a team of Sheffield legends (6pm start).
