OZCHEM LEGEND 35 WORLD SELECT 43

Sunday March 15, 2009
GRAND Prix superstars Greg Hancock and Jason Crump gave an exhibition of true class on a rare visit to Sheffield last night.

Both were at their best just five-weeks before the start of the world championship campaign as they helped a World Stars side romp to victory over the Sheffield Legends.

The meeting was held in memory of the club's close friends Darren and Sharon Boocock whose son, 13-year-old Jack, was introduced to the stars on parade.

And when the action got underway there was some entertaining action for the big crowd to enjoy.

Hancock signalled his intentions with a majestic ride in the opening race to outpace teenage ace Tai Woffinden in the opening race.

But Woffinden was back out in the next race which he won in a time almost a second quicker than Hancock's opening race effort.

Crump, meanwhile, went about his business in typical no-nonsense style and, although rarely troubled, he was good value for entertainment and celebrated with a wheelie in front of the fans when he completed his maximum 12-point score.

Hancock was beaten only in the last race - but he could have so easily passed Rory Schlein had he not shut off on the third lap when he took the inside line.

Crump praised the fans for turning out in force on an emotional night for him.

He said: "Darren and Sharon loved their Speedway and I think we did them justice.

"I'd love to thank the fans and the organisers. Its been a special night."
