TIGERS AIM FOR DIAMONDS DOUBLE

Wednesday April 15, 2009
SHEFFIELD are looking to get their Premier Trophy Speedway campaign back on track by completing the double over Newcastle Diamonds at Owlerton Stadium on Thursday (7.45).

The Sheffield Window Centre-backed side are still hurting after their back-to-back defeats at the hands of Redcar over Easter.

It came as a surprise after pulling off a stunning win at Newcastle just days earlier.

Sheffield are unchanged for the clash which means the struggling Paul Cooper keeps his place with the full backing of the club management.

Cooper has been putting in the hours trying to get to the bottom of his mechanical gremlins which have hit his confidence.

Club owner Neil Machin said: “Overall I’m happy with the team. There’s a great spirit in the camp – Ricky Ashworth made a great gesture in giving his time up to help Paul Cooper last week and there aren’t many captains who would do that.

“Thursday’s meeting against Newcastle is a chance to get everything on track and I think we need to make a bit of a point in this one.”

SHEFFIELD: Ricky Ashworth, Josh Auty, Paul Cooper, Richard Hall, Ritchie Hawkins, Chris Mills, Joel Parsons.
NEWCASTLE: Steve Boxall, Craig Branney, Jason King, Kenni Larsen, Trent Leverington, Derek Sneddon, Casper Wortmann.
