BRAVE Sheffield went agonisingly close to a remarkable Knockout Cup win over Edinburgh after a brilliant 56-34 second leg win at Owlerton on Thursday.
Eric Boocock’s men were 28-points down after a disastrous first leg in Scotland three-weeks ago but were confident of turning it back in their favour on home shale.
All looked lost when Edinburgh were 13-11 ahead after four races and it was this slow start which ultimately proved costly for the Sheffield Window Centre-backed side.
They needed three successive 5-1 wins to pull it off in the last three races – but when they only managed a 4-2 in the penultimate race it was all over.
Boss Boocock said: “Credit to the lads, from 28-points down to take it to Heat 14 was a terrific effort.
“The fans could see they gave it everything they had out there and on another day we could have pulled it off. It was a brave performance.”
Hall was tops for the hosts with 14, dropping his only point first time out to the impressive Wethers who topped the Monarchs scorechart with paid 12.
