TIGERS HEAD TO WALES

Saturday July 25, 2009
SHEFFIELD will be looking to continue their recent good run of form when they head to Newport on Sunday (5.00pm start).

The Tigers are in sixth place in the Premier League table and the right result at the Hayley Stadium will see them move up into the play-off places.

The Wasps, however, are currently lying at the bottom of the table and it has been a difficult season for the new management at the South Wales track.

Injuries have taken their toll, but in recent weeks they have made new signings in a bid to get their campaign back-on-track. Leigh Lanham has come in on loan to bolster the top-end and highly-rated Swede Jonas Andersson has also been added to the ranks.

Sheffield co-promoter David Hoggart remains confident going into the meeting but is not expecting an easy ride.

He said: "Newport holds no fear for the guys. Historically we have always done well there but there is no room for complacency.

“Leigh Lanham is a very experienced rider and will be more than a handful for us, so we have to look to our reserves and middle-order to do the job.

“Hugh Skidmore will be seeing the place for the first time and could be our trump card. He was flying from the gate on Thursday and if he makes the starts at Newport he’ll be very difficult to pass.

“We are all looking forward to it."

The Tigers go into the match at full-strength, but Newport will be without Jordan Frampton after he broke his wrist whilst doubling-up for Coventry at Wolverhampton on Monday.

NEWPORT: Leigh Lanham, Chris Kerr, Jonas Andersson, Jordan Frampton (rider-replacement), Paul Fry, Marek Mroz, James Holder

SHEFFIELD: Ricky Ashworth, Hugh Skidmore, Joel Parsons, Richard Hall, Josh Auty, Chris Mills, Paul Cooper.
