TIGERS 46 WORKINGTON 46

Thursday August 27, 2009
SHEFFIELD Tigers were involved in a thrilling 46-46 draw with Premier League rivals Workington on a great night of speedway at Owlerton on Thursday.

A bumper crowd packed into the venue for a clash between two sides who are hopefully of reaching the play-offs.

And it was former skipper Andre Compton (PICTURED) who led the Comets' charge with 16 big points as Sheffield let it slip following a flying start which saw them bang in two successive 5-1s and a 4-2 to lead 14-4 after just three races.

But they failed to win a single heat after that as Workington nibbled away at the deficit to trail just 38-36 with three heats to go.

Tigers skipper Ricky Ashworth had the big crowd on their toes when he made the start late on but Czech star Adrian Rymel shot around the boards to nose ahead on the second turn and when Compton battled from the back to overhaul Hall it made sure the visitors took two points back to Cumbria.

That proved to be Ashworth's only defeat by an opponent - having beaten Compton twice in earlier races - on a night of superb action.

WORKINGTON: A. Compton 16, A. Rymel 13, K. Doolan 7+1, S. Lambert 5, J.. Branney 4+2, C. Cook 1.
