RYE HOUSE 55 SHEFFIELD 41 (Agg: 93-92)

Saturday October 03, 2009
BRILLIANT displays from Ricky Ashworth and Josh Auty almost helped Tigers through to the Jack Young Shield semi-finals – but they missed out by a single point at Rye House.

The Sheffield Window Centre-backed side suffered a nightmare start and saw their 13-point first leg lead wiped out within four races.

Both Ashworth and Auty won tactical rides to keep Tigers in the hunt and going into Heat 15 the duo needed a maximum 5-1 to win the tie.

Ashworth won the race but brave teenager Auty had to settle for third and Rye House were through by the most narrow of margins.

It was an epic battle between the two sides and Tigers were congratulated for the part they played by the Rockets management and fans.

RYE HOUSE: Chris Neath 15, Luke Bowen 12+2, Joe Haines 10+1, Kyle Hughes 7+1, Linus Sundstrom 6+1, Jay Herne 5+1, Rob Mear R/R.
SHEFFIELD: Ricky Ashworth 14, Josh Auty 14, Jerran Hart 7, Joel Parsons 4+2, Chris Mills 2+1, Scott Smith 0, Richard Hall R/R.
