TOP GUN HANDICAP, THURSDAY - PREVIEW

Wednesday October 07, 2009
SHEFFIELD Speedway will showcase the stars of the future in their penultimate event of the season at Owlerton on Thursday (7.45pm).

The Top Gun Handicap sees a host of teenagers with high hopes for a career in Premier and Elite League racing.

And the meeting features the unique handicap system used by Wolverhampton at the longest running individual meeting in the country, the Olympique.

When a rider wins a race he will start 15-metres back in his next outing. A second place will handicap a rider by 10, third place by 5.

Said Machin: "It's a unique format which is very successful at Wolverhampton and I have no doubt it will be popular amongst the younger lads.

"Whenever we have staged this event the racing has been every bit as exciting as any Premier League meeting and it's a pleasure to work with the younger lads, they don't know when they're beaten."

Machin has confirmed the last meeting of the year will be a special farewell challenge against a Leicester Lions Select next Thursday, October 15.

TOP GUN LINE-UP: James Sarjeant, Ben Hannon, Kyle Howarth, Jamie Courtney, Ashley Morris, Scott Richardson, Luke Priest, Taylor Poole, Ben Taylor, Jade Mudgeway, Craig Cook, Adam Wrathall, Greg Blair, Gary Irving, Johnny Grey, Benjamin Borgers.
