TIGERS 49 SCUNTHORPE 43

SHEFFIELD Tigers gave a hard working display to beat Scunthorpe 49-43 in their Thursday night Premier Trophy action at Owlerton.

The result secured two points for Sheffield and a consolation point for the visitors because they lost by only six.

The meeting was watched by a bumper crowd and reserve Paul Cooper was unbeaten in his first four outings on his way to a 10+1 haul – the same score as former Scunny man Richard Hall.

But the best rider in the meeting was David Howe, the former England international, who notched 18-points from his five rides, including six from a tactical ride. He was unstoppable in one of the best displays from an opposing rider in recent years.

Skipper Ricky Ashworth said: “Scunthorpe are a good side and we had to work hard so I suppose we have to be happy to win the meeting but if we’re going to do something this season we need to win by more than six and get all three points.”

TIGERS: Paul Cooper 10+1, Richard Hall 10+1, Hugh Skidmore 8+2, Ricky Ashworth 8+1, Josef Franc 6+1, Josh Auty 6, Arlo Bugeja 1+1.

SCUNTHORPE: David Howe 18, Magnus Karlsson 10, Joel Parsons 6, Jerran Hart 4+1, Carl Wilkinson 3+1, Viktor Bersgtrom 2, Simon Lambert 0.
