REDCAR 44 TIGERS 49

Friday May 28, 2010
JOSH Auty was the star of the show for Sheffield as they raced to an enthralling 49-44 win at Redcar on Friday evening.

Auty scored 16+1 from six rides and his victory over former World Champion Gary Havelock in heat 14 finally confirmed the victory against a resilient Bears side.

Sheffield led by ten-points after seven races, but inspired by a tactical ride win by Emiliano Sanchez in heat 8 the Teesside club came fighting back.

And when Redcar duo Tomas Suchanek and Havelock linked up for a 5-1 in heat 9 the Sheffield advantage was cut to just one-point (29-28).

With their lead suddenly threatened they responded well with Ricky Ashworth and Hugh Skidmore racing to a 4-2 over former Owlerton favourite Ben Wilson in heat 11, and another four-points from Auty and Paul Cooper in heat 12 helped settle the nerves.

Ashworth then made a good start in heat 13 to lead all the way against Henning Bager and Wilson, with the subsequent share of the points maintaining a five-point lead going into the penultimate race.

Thankfully, Auty finally settled things with a tapes-to-flag victory over Havelock and Stuart Swales in heat 14 and the Tigers had their first Premier League away win of the season.
