TIGERS HELD BY RIVALS

Monday April 09, 2007
TIGERS missed a golden opportunity to gain revenge over great rivals King's Lynn in a thrilling Bank Holiday showdown at Owlerton.

The 45-45 draw leaves Reg Wilson's men struggling to qualify for the Premier Trophy semi-finals - and they needed a last race 4-2 to save the match.

But they could have won it had Ricky Ashworth been able to hold his second place in heat 15 behind skipper Andre Compton.

Sheffield were guilty of throwing points away by the barrowload, especially when James Birkinshaw frustratingly pulled up at the back in heat 7 and then watched as Lynn’s Trevor Harding fell in third place on the final bend but managed to scramble over the line for a precious point.

Tigers also saw Joel Parsons burn a clutch out on the start line, while James Cockle suffered a flat tyre while third and then Ben Wilson agonisingly slid off on the second turn.

The meeting provided some exciting racing - with more of the same expected for Thursday's TRophy tie with Workington at Owlerton (7.45pm).

TIGERS: A. Compton 13+1, R. Ashworth 10+1, P. Cooper 6+2, J. Birkinshaw 6, J. Parsons 6, J. Cockle 2, B. Wilson 2.
KING’S LYNN: D. Nermark 11, T. Topinka 10. J. Oliver 9+1, P.Lee 6+2, C. Mills 4+1, T. Harding 4, S. Lambert 1+1.
