TIGERS SEND COMETS CRASHING

Thursday April 12, 2007
SHEFFIELD Tigers kept alive their slim hopes of Premier Trophy qualification with a 66-26 demolition of Workington at Owlerton Stadium.

The aggregate bonus point gained from the victory means they go into next week's meetings with Stoke needing maximum points - and other teams around them need to drop points.

The start of the season has not been without problems in the Tigers camp and speculation had been gathering pace about possible changes - but the team responded in style against a revamped Workington outfit with several riders paying their first visit to Owlerton.

In a rock-solid display, Tigers skipper Andre Compton again led by example with a paid 15-point haul, although he was made to work for his maximum in a thrilling finale when he made a hash of the start and had to reel in Comets' Kauko Nieminen before grabbing second place on the last best to partner Ricky Ashworth to Tigers' ninth 5-1 of the night.

TIGERS: Andre Compton 14+1, Ricky Ashworth 13+1, Ben Wilson 11+1, Joel Parsons 9+2, Paul Cooper 7+4, James Cockle 6+1, James Birkinshaw 6+1.
WORKINGTON: Michal Makovsky 10, Kauko Nieminen 6, Charles Wright 4, Craig Branney 3+1, Kenneth Hansen 2, Jamie Robertson 1, Mattia Carpanese 0.
