TIGERS UP FOR THE CUP

Wednesday May 02, 2007
SHEFFIELD Tigers are hoping to hit rivals Edinburgh with a knockout blow when the sides meet at Owlerton on Thursday (7.45pm).

The Sheffield Window Centre-backed side are in Premier League Knockout Cup action and they're looking for a healthy first leg lead to take to Scotland on Friday.

It's a competition the club are keen have a good run in, particularly after the bitter disappointment of missing out on a Premier Trophy semi-final spot.

The Monarchs include former world finalist 'Rocket' Ronnie Correy along with fast rising young British talent William Lawson, who is enjoying some successful Elite League outings as part of Wolverhampton's squad.

Tigers owner Neil Machin said: "Everyone was disappointed with our Premier Trophy performances, so as well as the League championship itself we'd love to have a run in the Cup.

"This is the equivalent of football's FA Cup and Rugby League's Challenge Cup, that's how big these meetings are for us, and we want the backing of our fans to get right behind us.

"It's vital for us to take a good lead up to Scotland for the return leg, and the way the boys have been performing there is no reason why we can't do that, but we also know how difficult it will be at their place."

Tigers bosses would like to remind fans that all children under the age of 12 will continue to be admitted free of charge as the club looks to a new generation of fans to pack the Owlerton terraces.

TIGERS: Andre Compton, Ben Wilson, Ricky Ashworth, James Birkinshaw, Joel Parsons, Paul Cooper, James Cockle.

EDINBURGH: Ronnie Correy, Henrik Moller, William Lawson, Daniele Tessari, Matthew Wethers, Derek Sneddon, Andrew Tully.
