SHEFFIELD bosses have paid tribute to loyal fans who have stood by the club throughout the pandemic.

With the new season set to launch at Owlerton on Thursday May 20 against Peterborough, the management are working hard behind the scenes to get ready.

Existing season ticket holders who purchased for the 2020 season which didn’t happen have left their money in the club – and in turn they have been told they won’t be out of pocket this summer despite less fixtures.

Co-promoter Damien Bates said: “We are busy behind the scenes getting all our ducks in line ready for the return of speedway to Owlerton.

“There are certain hoops to jump through but we’ll get there and as a management team we all met up outdoors on Saturday to talk things through which was great.

“It’s important for every single supporter to know how much we value their loyal backing. We cannot do this without you and we really appreciate it.

“Also to our team sponsor Guy Nicholls at Tru Plant, plus all our other commercial supporters and track staff, plus of course our landlords at Owlerton.”

Several logistics are being worked on with the new season just three weeks away.

Said Bates: “We are currently upgrading our online ticket sales system and advance tickets will be on sale soon, hopefully in plenty of time for May 20.

“As for season ticket holders, we are aware that as it stands there is a shortage of guaranteed meetings.

“Should we reach the play offs, which I’m confident we will, then these matches will be included, together with any other matches we are able to run before the end of the season.

“We will then reassess the situation and advise fans. No fan will be left out of pocket.”

The club have also revealed how two heat sponsorship slots remain available for £350 plus VAT – anyone interested should email office@sheffield-speedway.com for further details.

Sheffield head to Belle Vue on the opening night of the season which is Monday May 17 with ticket details yet to be announced by the Manchester club.

The current government roadmap appears to remain on course for the return of fans into sporting venues from that date.
