TIGERS 46 WOLVES 44

ANDRE Compton started the season in flying form with a fabulous 15-point maximum as Tigers edged out Elite League Wolverhampton in a last-heat decider.

Compton and Ricky Ashworth came up with the vital 4-2 in the last race to secue victory after the sides had gone into the decider level at 42-42.

In a see-saw finale, Tigers looked to have done enough to win in a dramatic Heat 13 when Ben Wilson and Ricky Ashworth snatched their side's first 5-1 against livewire Pole Adam Skornicki, after his team-mate Nikolai Klindt suffered serious shoulder injuries in a first-turn crash.

But Wolves refused to be beaten and Magnus Karlsson and Theo Pijper notched a 5-1 in the penultimate race to level the scores going into the decider.

With Compton in magnificent form, jetting from the tapes, Ashworth won a four lap tussle with Pijper to take third behind Skornicki as the 4-2 heat advantage made sure of the win.

Teenager Klindt, one of speedway's hottest young prospects was rushed to hospital with a suspected broken shoulder after his crash, when he ripped through a section of the first bend fence after losing control.

Ashworth was paid for 11, including two wins, while Wilson - stepping up to heat leader for the first time - celebrated his 21st birthday with a win double in his paid ten. Pijper and Karlsson were best for Wolves.

TIGERS: Andre Compton 15, Ricky Ashworth 11+1, Ben Wilson 9+1, James Birkinshaw 6, Paul Cooper 2+1, Joel Parsons 2, James Cockle 1.
WOLVES: Theo Pijper 10+1, Magnus Karlsson 9+1, Adam Skornicki 9+1, David Howe 6+2, Nicolai Klindt 4, Fredrik Lindgren 3+1, Carl Wilkinson 3+1.
